Today the Archbishop of Canterbury argued in the House of Lords that the proposed military action on Syria was within ‘Just War’ guidelines. As Anglican Pacifists we beg to differ. Jesus – the prince of peace challenges us to resist the drive to retaliation and seeing ourselves as just. In the face of the world’s violence Jesus calls us to self criticism and to acknowledge our part in perpetuating an ongoing cycle of war and hatred. The Christian response is not to justify the warmongering of the elite but to call for repentance and to expose the hypocrisy of much of our outrage at ‘terrorism’. Bombs will not bring peace and war will not see justice reign. Only radical conversion of our hearts will do that. A conversion that will see us opening our borders to the refugee, dismantling the arms trade and working for peace – a peace not built on diplomacy but upon the righteous reordering of an unjust world.

I was introduced to APF website today. Truly I discovered and read this brog very late, I sincerely appreciate the response of Roger Payne of The Peacemaker to the Archbishop of Canterbury’s view as regard to the UK’s anti-Daesh military campaign.
Love and peace are the best virtues.
Remain blessed and steadfast in the Lord.
